The Battle for the Crystal Axe is a Border Battle for Better
Last year, the first annual Battle for the Crystal Axe took place at The Club at Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. In typical border battle fashion, both Minnesota and Wisconsin athletics geared up and then faced off for a not-so-typical golf tournament. After a day of golfing and raising money for The Crystal Axe Charities Inc (501c3), it was Minnesota who was on-par to win and brought home the Crystal Axe.
This year, the 2nd annual event is headed to Minnesota and will take place at Mystic Lake Casino. Once again, some of the biggest names from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota will play in an 18-hole scramble golf tournament. With Minnesota fighting to keep the Crystal Axe at home, and Wisconsin hoping to win on foreign soil and bring the Crystal Axe to Badgerland, both teams are zeroed in on winning the fight for a good cause and a good time.
This year we are adding to the fun and hoping to raise more money for our designated charities with the Crystal Axe Pre-Party, which will take place the night before at the Mystic Lake Hotel and Event Center. Prepare to kick-off this year's event with food, beverages, entertainment, and a chance to socialize with Gopher and Badger friends and foes. And because the Battle for the Crystal Axe is a Border Battle for Better, there will be a live and silent auction, along with opportunities to give to Minnesota and Wisconsin charities.
The Crystal Axe Pre-Party is open to golfers and non-golfers, so bring your spouse/friends and make a night of it. Discounted hotel rooms will be available. Sign up today. Tickets are limited.

The Charities
On the Minnesota side, we’ll be working with former University of Minnesota football player, and six-time cancer survivor Casey O’Brien’s charity Team One Four. Casey is working to raise one million dollars to transform the 9th floor at M Health Fairview Children’s Masonic Hospital. The transformation will include both capital improvements to upgrade facilities as well as expanded and enhanced programming.
The mission of Team One Four is to create a space that’s as inviting, positive, and fun as a hospital can be.
On the Wisconsin side, we’ll be working with SOFA-Saving Others For Archie. SOFA was founded in memory of Archie Badura, a 19-year-old who tragically died from a fentanyl overdose in 2014. Archie's family established SOFA to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid addiction and to prevent similar tragedies.
By raising awareness and advocating for change, SOFA strives to create communities free from the dangers of opioid misuse and fentanyl poisoning, ensuring tragedies like Archie's become a rarity.
